Eastern Grenville Quebec-Labrador Quebec-Newfoundland Transect Central Newfoundland Grand Banks

This view northwestwards across the Pleasantville area of St. John’s shows a section through Neoproterozoic sediments of the Avalon Zone, exposed on the east flank of the Conception Bay Anticline. Quidi Vidi Lake, which drains east into Quidi Vidi Harbour - The Gut, occupies a glacially carved trough. Pleistocene ice flow was generally towards the ocean, and a thin layer of till mantles most of the area. (Courtesy of Ron Garnett - AirScapes)
