Survey model

Yukon Surveys

The Yukon’s first public domain, gamma-ray spectrometric - magnetic - VLF-EM survey was completed in 1994, in the Casino deposit area, Northern Dawson Range, funded by the Canada-Yukon Mineral Development Agreement and the GSC. Survey results proved useful to mappers and explorationists and lead to additional surveys in subsequent years (see index map).

Brewery Creek Survey

For the 1997 Brewery Creek survey, however, government funding constraints prompted a new and very successful approach to Industry/Government collaboration - Industrial Partners funded most of the survey, in exchange for GSC quality control, lower costs and exclusive access to 250 m flight line data; 500 m data is published as soon as it is available, as for all previous Yukon surveys (see index map). The 250 m data is published 1 year after survey completion.

While future NATGAM survey funding mixes will vary, depending on available public and private sector monies, exclusivity arrangements and other factors, the Brewery Creek ’Model’ offers significant benefits to all participants, and supports ongoing collection of important public-domain data.

Benefits!

Industry participants

  • reduced survey costs, quality control, exclusivity, contract supervision, data interpretation and follow-up assistance

Governments

  • external funding supports ongoing collection of public domain data, to national standards

Public (non-participating exploration industry, bedrock and surficial geological mappers, prospectors, environmentalists, land use planners, and many other end-users!)

  • timely access to high quality geophysical/geochemical data over existing and potential new mineral deposits within staked and open ground in prospective areas.
